The Triathlon takes place in Käringsund, Eckerö on western Åland, about 30 kilometers from Mariehamn. The triathlon area is within a walking distance from Eckerölinjen’s ferry harbour which has three daily departures to Grisslehamn, north of Stockholm. The ferry crossing takes approx. 2 hours.
The swimming takes place in Käringsund’s scenic sea lagoon. This place can be recognized by many as the film setting for “The Sea Crow Island”, based on the children’s book by Astrid Lindgren; the buoy where you turn around when swimming is only about 100 metres from the boathouses where the film was shot. The water in Käringsund is clear and fine. This time of the year the water temperature is between 15-19 degrees Celsius.
The ½ distance, the olympic distance (competition classes) and the Käringsund open water starts takes place through a jump from M / S Michael Sars from which the participants swim to the beach at Käringsund Resort & Conference.
Cycling takes place on a flat and fast course with excellent even surface. The run is performed on quiet private roads. The surface is tarmac and the half-distance is partly on smooth gravel. The profile of the track is fairly flat.
